Google's Sergey Brin pays $5 million for space trip

And that's just the down-payment

NEWS: 12 June 2008 10:45 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Google co-founder Sergey Brin has paid $5 million to secure a seat on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft.

Brin's space tourist seat will be on a future orbital space flight, Eric Anderson, CEO of private company Space Adventures Ltd., has revealed.

Space Adventures will host the first private space flight to the international space station in 2011, which could be the trip than Brin opts to go on.

But $5 million isn't the total cost, the 35-year-old Google exec, now a founding member of the "Space Adventures' Founding Explorer group" will have to pay a further $30 million before he actually takes his seat on a spacecraft.

Brin said: "I am a big believer in the exploration and commercial development of the space frontier, and am looking forward to the possibility of going into space".
