Philips has announced the launch of the new Go Gear range of portable audio players.

The company says the new offerings are compact and "pack a mighty performance" thanks to the inclusion of Philips patented FullSound technology.

The new square-shaped range includes four models each measuring a 41 x 41 x 15mm. The line-up features two models with integrated FM tuners: the 4GB SA2845 and the 2GB SA2825 and two non-FM versions: the 4GB SA2840 and 2GB SA2820.

The front of the players has a mirror finish but once touched all track information is displayed on a 128 x 64 OLED display while a folder view claims to make track location and selection fast and simple.

Philips says the Fullsound system enhances the dynamics, bass, treble and stereo imaging of highly compressed MP3 files by restoring them closer to the levels found on the original recording.

The players will handle MP3 or WMA format music boasting 20 hours playback and the ability to make voice recordings via the in-built microphone.

Drag and drop ease of use via USB is promised and the players come complete with "quality" headphones.

Pricing is from £29.99 for the 2GB without radio to £44.99 to the 4GB plus FM tuner.
