This site has been making the headlines recently and for good reason. Love it or hate it, in it's new redesigned compact form or for its past broadsheet glories, The Times of London is one of the oldest and arguably the most respected newspapers in the world.

The Thunderer, in all its forms has covered every major global event since 1785 and as you can imagine that's quite a lot of history.

It's archives are suitably impressive (take it from somebody who's actually seen them) and finally they are available to anybody, not just the lucky few to make it into the old rum warehouse in Wapping that once housed the venerable newspaper itself.

Stories and pictures from every era of its history between 1785 and 1985 are now available as digitally scanned searchable onscreen facsimiles. You can also buy original copies if you prefer the more tactile type of research.

Once immersed in this, you might not get much work done this week.

  • Ref Mike Humes report, 1 July, concerning the monarchy`s money troubles.
He is totally correct in my view regarding his opinion of the poor monarchy. Whose buildings are they anyway? He has my 100% support. Let`s do more to criticise the monarchy, where it is due, and all those who want to perpetuate it. It seems the media only ever compliments the family and smiles upon them ever diverting criticism due.

  • Can anyone tell me how to get to times archive pictures featured in The Times and saying to see more archive pictures go to timesonline.co.uk/archive - appears to be just adverts. Posted by Jean allen, England
