Product (RED) plans music service

Choons for charridy

NEWS: 1 July 2008 15:37 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Product (RED), the Bono-run charity that helps those with AIDS in Africa, is planning to launch a music subscription service.

Subscribers will pay $5 a month to get three pieces of media every month, the first will be one track from a leading artist - with U2, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Elton John, Emmylou Harris and Death Cab for Cutie all signed up so far.

The second will be a track from an up-and-coming act and the third will be a "crackerjack surprise" something, which could be a song, video, short story or "anything else that fits the description".

In addition, users of the service can sign up to receive detailed stories of how the (RED) cash is being spent in Africa.

Half of the money raised will go to the charity and the other half to the artists who contribute songs. Exact details to be revealed nearer the time.
