MacBook Air gets a price cut

Solid-state version reduced by £300

NEWS: 4 July 2008 12:32 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Apple has slashed the price of the solid-state version of the MacBook Air, cutting costs by £300 in the UK, or by $500 for American consumers.

The 1.8GHz model with a 64GB solid-state drive now costs £1719, down from the £2028 price tag the machine commanded on launch earlier this year.

Apple has also reduced the price of the SSD option for the 1.6GHz model to £389, thought to be due to Apple passing on the savings to customers from the slump in costs of Nand flash memory used to produce the solid-state disks.

The MacBook Air, although praised for its good, super-slim looks, has come into criticism for its low spec, high price and has seen overheating issues too.
