Museum of Computing evicted

Leaves Swindon site

NEWS: 4 July 2008 14:18 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

We are sorry to report that the Museum of Computing has now been evicted following its unsuccessful attempt to find new premises.

The Museum of Computing, the UK's first dedicated computer museum, has been evicted due to its previous landlord, the University of Bath, withdrawing from the Oakfield campus in Swindon.

With over 2000 hardware exhibits (85% of which are in full working order), 2500 software items and around 1500 books, manuals, specialist magazines and sundry items, The Museum of Computing needed to find a new location with 75 square metres (800 square feet) of exhibition space, disabled access and 100 square metres (1075 square feet) of storage.

The Museum has received offers of help from outside of the Swindon area, but as the museum relies on local volunteers the attraction would leave Swindon only as a last resort.

Anyone with ideas for a new venue can contact Simon Webb at info@museum-of-computing.org.uk.
