It's been revealed that Asus has shipped 1.7 million Eee PCs in the first half of 2008.

Although these figures may sound high, it's actually 300,000 less than the company's original forecast for the first half of the year.

Some are accrediting the shortfall in figures to the shortage of Intel Atom processors, rather than a symptom of economic downturn.

Company sources state that Asus still hopes to ship five million Eee PCs in 2008, still aiming for a 50% market share.

Intel has previously forecast that cumulative netbook shipments will reach a minimum of 47 million units over the next 4 years.
