• strictly illegal.... well, err...ahhh.... it violates your end user license. so, that means that you are no longer using it according to the rules apple set out. as an end user, i believe that means 2 things:
  
  1. no warranty of any kind (don't bother contacting apple support)
  2. apple is not obliged to care if their updates break your machine (read: apple may, if it wants, intentionally brick your box via updates)
  
  the legality? well, you won't go to jail and you can't be sued for it (there is no LOSS apple could claim, and it's hazy but potentially this falls under fair-use).
  
  ok, but a company like PyStar... now that's STRICTLY ILLEGAL. there are LOSSES apple can prove in court, and PyStar profited from violating the EULA. so... as a reseller, etc:
  
  1. you can't distribute copies of OSX knowingly to be used in violation of the EULA
  2. if you're making a profit from this, it has to follow apple's rules
  3. there is no real safe way to distribute macosx on non-apple hardware (it's got to be done by the end user without official support from the manufacturer).
  
  so.
  the instructions above aren't all that 'unsafe' after all.
