It looks like Creative is starting to move away from its core business of creating soundcards with the addition of the SoundWorks Radio CD Model 740.

The table top player, which allows you to listen to radio or CD, has two built-in speakers and a sub woofer.

The compactly designed radio features a two line display to receive RDS data, 24 station presets, and offers FM and MW broadcasts. The CD player as well as playing standard CD discs is also capable of playing MP3 music that has been recorded onto CDR/CDRW discs.

The unit is controlled via a remote control and weights 5.5kgs - roughly the equivalent of six bags of sugar. This is the first foray into standalone radio and CD players for Creative and it is clear Creative hope to build on its speaker and sound technology, but at £300 this won't be for everyone.
