  • If it werent for the fact that the TV tuner is going to be more or less redundant until 2012 and that rivals are all touting 8mpx cameras (with proper Xenon flashes no less) I might be able to get more behind this otherwise achingly beautiful new edition of a cult Nokia. Posted by L.Rawlins, UK
  • I also fear that like the Radio functionality of a modern NSeries device, use of the TV Tuner will require headphones attached a) to activate the TV software and b) to get a signal.

For a guy who uses wireless Bluetooth A2DP headphones this will be a royal pain in the backside.

  • Do you know if this phone will be available on 3ireland network? Posted by horse, ireland
  • So this phone isn't much diffeent from the N95. Presumably that'll mean the battery life's rubbish and the GPS won't work. Posted by Mark, UK
  • Please can someone explain to me what good is there having a TV Tuner on this N96 if you can't watch TV on it Posted by craig, UK
  • @craig

It will depend upon on your region as to the quality of your Freeview reception on this device. Also bear in mind that this unit will also be sold elsewhere in Europe that can take full advantage of DVB-H right now.

    @Mark

This will likely follow in (and improve upon) the footsteps of my N82 in terms of its efficiency and battery use over the original N95. Disregarding what the TV Tuner will do to the new model, I would expect atleast three days of intermittent use outside the reach of a wall socket.

To be honest with you though, I was already in the habit of plugging my mobiles in at the end of one day, ready for the next... so personally this has never been an issue.

  • @L.Rawlins: achingly beautiful?
Not compared to the INNOV8 it isn't - it gets beaten both on the aesthetics of the handset itself and the UI, which unless it has been seriously over-hauled from the N95 will just be the same hideous Nokia Symbian menus, whereas Samsung seem to have learnt from their success with the superb P2 DAP.

Also, have you ever used the N82?
The keypad is a mess, it's almost unusable compared to the N95's.

  • WHATS THE POINT OF THIS PHONE THE CAMERA IS QUITE CRAP FOR NOWADAYS. IT LACKS FACE DETECTION AND XENON FLASH.
THE PHONE LOOKS LIKE A SQUASHED N81.
THE MOST STUPID THING IS THE D-PAD HAS MULTIMEDIA KEYS ON THEM SO WHY DO YOU NEED THE DUAL SLIDER THING.
    PATHETIC.
IVE SEEN THE LG KC910 (THEYRE 8MP PHONE) AND IT IS PACKED WITH ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY. I CANT GIVE ANY INFO ON IT EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT IT FEATURES THE SLIMMEST OPTICAL ZOOM LENS (12.9MM) AND IT HAS A 3.8 INCH TOUCHSCREEN.
    IT IS CODENAMED ULTIMUM.
