Hewlett-Packard is "hot" on the prospects of touchscreen technology, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The computer company told the paper that it's working on "an array" of products, including notebooks with a touchscreen interface, as seen with its TouchSmart PCs.

The WSJ states that HP is "so keen on the idea" that it plans to launch "touch-enabled notebook computers", as opposed to tablet PCs, within the next 18 months.

"We're focused on recognizing the potential of touch now", said Phil McKinney, the chief technology officer for the company's laptop division. "We see touch as the almost preferred method for nontechnical users."
