There's been a September launch for new iPods for the past 3 years, and analyst Gene Munster has said he expects this year to be no different.

With all the new product rumours currently swirling in cyberspace, it's perhaps not a huge leap, but investment bank Piper Jaffray has told clients it expects Apple to hold a special event in September for not just iPods, but an array of new products.

At this year's event, Munster, a long-time Apple watcher, is predicting that Apple will refresh the iPod family with a "pricing and capacity changes" for the shuffle and nano, expected to get bigger memory, and the touch, expected to get a price drop to $199, with a possible redesign.

In addition, a complete overhaul of the company's notebooks is due, says Munster: "We note that the MacBook has had the same design since its launch over two years ago, and the MacBook Pro has had essentially the same design since its launch over 2.5 years ago, which was very similar in design to the PowerBook G4 released over 5.5 years ago"

As rumours have suggested, Munster believes that touch tech will be prevalent across Apple's ranges, with the touch-enabled notebook products available now "just the beginning of Apple's exploration of multi-touch on the Mac".

But, Munster does not expect either the rumoured new Newton, or a full touchscreen MacBook "until the technology has fully matured over the next 2-3 years".

  • I am in no way interested in Apple, Macs or iPods, but by association this also implies that rival manufacturers will be prepping competitive alternatives to any new produce come years end and that *will* pique my interest.

    Woo.

PS: Your Captcha utility at the bottom here is verging on farcical. *I* can't distinguish some of the words let alone a spambot. For example, what in the bloody hell is an 'Inkjopskontor' and a 'Mille'?!

I agree. These 'anti-bot' devices are just plain out of control. Why in the world would they think that a bot would be posting comments on this forum in the first place? And why do they think they need to make it nearly unreadable?

People think they're cool doing stupid stuff like that, but it's just a huge waste of time with no benefit.

Yet I keep reading these d@mn stories about Apple products and drooling. I much prefer to jam to my Zune and my Dell while secretly lusting after Apple products. Apple needs to license the Zune software from Microsoft and run Vista on their Macs. That's the only way they're going to survive.

  • Joe,

We have the Captcha software in, as without it, the comments would be overwhelmed with spam, which would make the comments pointless - trust us we've tried it with out and within two minutes were flooded.

If you don't want to have to fill in the captcha information everytime, become a member, which is free, and then just sign in when you visit the site.

Instead of having to fill in your details every time you'll just get a box with a submit button at the bottom of every news and review article.

  • Apple needs to license Vista to survive you must surely be joking. Why exactly would they want to license the most derided operating system in history, which incidentally the only good things it has are ideas stolen from apples osx operating system. Posted by martin, new zealand
