Freesat, the free-to-air digital satellite TV service, has announced the addition of six new radio and television channels launching on Friday 5 September.

The newest additions are Irish radio stations RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2fm, RTÉ lyric fm and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.

Also new to the platform are the three time-delayed services from Channel 4, including Film4 + 1, More4 + 1, and E4 + 1. All channels will show identical programming to the originals, but time-delayed by 1 hour.

Freesat says all channels and variants will automatically be updated via user’s set-top boxes, so viewers will not need to take any action to view the new services.

Comments

  • These time delayed channels are such a waste of time and broadcast spectrum when you have 'series link' or just plain 'record' functionality available in your PVR.

Let's face it, we all seemed to get along just fine with VideoPlus numbers recording to analog VHS tapes when we had but five channels and no second chances. So why when things are easier and you have a flippin' EPG *as standard* do we require 'backup channels' for content?

They repeat the damned content enough on the original channels anyway!
