Firmly in the realms of rumour, but interesting none the less, are reports of an Amazon MP3 application spotted recently running on T-Mobile's Android-based G1 handset.

VentureBeat is reporting that the T-Mobile G1 - that is due to be officially announced later today - was spotted in the States with "an Amazon music and video store application running on it".

The site states: "It looks like Amazon will have an app for Android that will complete head-on with the iTunes app on Apple’s popular iPhone device ... The Amazon music store on Android will almost for sure be a mobile version of its Amazon MP3 online digital music store".

Google will be offering applications for Android-based phones through its "Android Market", similar to Apple's App Store for the iPhone platform.

The T-Mobile G1 will be the world's first Android phone to be announced, and we are expecting news from Google about the platform, as well as from the operator about the handset today, so stay tuned and we'll bring you more from the official event later.
