Sixteen companies have teamed-up for a GSM Association-led initiative to make mobile broadband a recognisable standard, complete with its own logo.

With the aim to create a new category of "always-connected mobile broadband devices delivering a compelling alternative to Wi-Fi" the first phase will see pre-installed mobile broadband on laptops in 91 countries.

Launch participants include 3 Group, Asus, Dell, ECS, Ericsson, Gemalto, Lenovo, Microsoft, Orange, Qualcomm, Telefónica Europe, Telecom Italia, TeliaSonera, T-Mobile, Toshiba and Vodafone.

The GSMA-created "Mobile Broadband service mark", is designed to help consumers easily identify a "ready to run" mobile broadband device.

More is promised from the initiative including "a whole range of previously unconnected devices – from cameras and MP3 players to refrigerators, cars and set-top boxes".

  • I'm honestly lost for words with this article.....

NOT by its objectives or from the angle that partnerships form relationships that will no doubt in time benefit businesses, the general public including myself in the long run!

HOWEVER, once again we find ANOTHER non descript bland logo to represent something which is so vibrant and important in the modern society!! I can only hope there wasn't a huge investment to some Marketing Agency who claim they spent weeks, days and hours on something my 4 year old daughter could produce in an afternoon at school?!?

Sorry to rant but I needed to vent my frustrations!!!!!

    Thank you

  • The logo is apt.

    Birds soaring high.

    Just like the charges.

  • was this logo created with clip art?? considering so many companies have got involved you would have thought someone would speak up and say something like "what has this got to do with mobile broadband technology"!!!!! my gran could have done better Posted by mr gates' mate, uk
  • Some people just cannot be happy, If they would have made some complicated logo people would have complained it was too messy and pointless, Look at if from teh POV of placing this logo on a laptop / PDA / Mobile Phone / Camera Etc WHo wats some massivly complex logo, something simple, easy to recognise and not similar to anythign else, Name me a complex logo of similar standing to this one. I cannot think of of one. Nvidia, microsoft, Intel, all simple and easy to recognise logos.

If you want to compain about somthing, moan about the 2012 games Logo, that is awful

  • Looks like they stole the logo from OpenOffice.org.

  • I think it's rather clever. At one glance it's two gulls, at another it's two clouds! Posted by Matt, England
  • I agree with Matt- at first I thought it was a cloud then when i looked closer it actually looks like two gulls. It is incredibly simplistic but then so are alot of buyers out there- im sure it will look better if its done as a shiny metallic logo in a vibrant colour.

All I will say about the article is if it wasnt bad enough our movements can be tracked by our phones but our cameras and mp3 players aswell.... and, erm... our fridges......
