New figures launched today suggest that half of the European workforce will be mobile by 2007 rather than stuck behind a desk.
According to Andrew Brown, Head of Programmes, European Mobile Devices and EMEA Mobile Computing of IDC, the company's research conducted over the past few years highlights the fact that Europe is increasingly striving to be more mobile.
Mr. Brown keynoted at the Dell seminar and said improved access to critical data, better customer service, and process cost reduction have all played critical a role in the consistent growth of the mobile workforce.
“Mobility is an inevitable trend”, says Brown. “Currently, nearly 40% of the European workforce is mobile and this number will only increase."
IDC predicts notebook growth projections of 30%+ annually through 2008 (17 million notebooks shipped in 2003, more than 48 million are predicted to ship in 2008).
IDC's research has also shown that although consumers and employees are enthusiastic about becoming mobile, there is currently still a lot of education needed by European organisations. When pressed to find out what would make them migrate to 3G from current GSM and GPRS mobile services, majority of companies, over 30%, claimed they didn't know.
