Details are still sketchy at the moment, but Pentax is set to launch a camcorder/camera - the new OptioMX. The unit offers a 3.2 effective megapixels with a 10-times optical zoom, and is not only able to capture stills but also high quality movie footage. The latter is delivered through the incorporation of the MPEG-4 format, newly introduced to digital cameras.
With an ergonomic grip handle and swivelling colour LCD monitor the styling harks back to the yester year of cine film cameras.
The OptioMX, Pentax's first full-capacity digital camcorder , will be priced at approximately £350 and will be available from June 2004.
