While Microsoft's release of Live OneCare has been a hot topic of news today, Symantec has been quick to release an announcement of its upcoming PC security software, codenamed Genesis and now officially called Norton 360.

To inspire consumer confidence, Norton 360 is marketed as an all-in-one service with automatically-installed updates, automated online back-up, and online transaction security.

The public beta will be released for download this summer and include email and chat support.

The software is part of the company's Security 2.0 plan, whereby Symantec plans to deliver end-to-end security for consumers so that online transactions are safer.

"Consumer trust and confidence have been eroding due to the increasing criminal activity in online environments," said Christian A Christiansen, IDC VP of Security Products and Service. "Consumers want protection of their financial data and their digital memories, and they want to safely interact and transact online. Symantec can help consumers regain their confidence in the online world."
