Mio debuts compact C210 satnav device for £199

Entry-level GPS device features full navigation software and speed camera alerts

NEWS: 15 June 2006 16:35 GMT by Amber Maitland

Sat-nav devices are ever-growing in popularity, but the price for most devices remains prohibitively high.

Mio Technology has released an entry-level device, the C210, at the affordable price of £199. Lightweight and compact, the GPS can be used both in the car and on foot, as it's small enough to slip into a handbag.

The device comes with Mio Map version 3 already loaded so that it's ready to go straight out of the box. Maps of 24 European countries are available to purchase from Mio online and are installed via the 2GB SD memory card slot, so that you can navigate your way through Europe with ease.

The software features an easy-to-use interface that can be operated via the 2.7inch touch screen, and finds locations by postcodes and stored addresses. It also remembers previous destinations so users can easily find them again.

Different modes guide the user through the best route for their mode of transport. For example, pedestrian mode may find footpaths, while another mode ensures the large vehicles aren't navigated through narrow streets and low bridges.

The device also acts as a detector for speed cameras, emitting an alarm when a user approaches one, and will note a new location if several users identify it so that all users can be made aware of it.

The C210 weights only 110 grams, runs on 4 AA batteries, and comes boxed with a USB lead, Point of Interest and the speed camera database, a car charger, a widescreen mount and a dashboard mounting kit.
