Mercedes Benz offers the Telephone Module to sync your mobile with your car

On-board display shows text messages and caller ID

NEWS: 26 June 2006 14:41 GMT by Amber Maitland

Mercedes Benz's in-car mobile phone system now downloads text messages from a handset and displays them on the dashboard disply.

The Telephone Modul works via a Bluetooth connection to the mobile phone, and features just one button that syncs it to your mobile.

The little display on the dashboard also shows caller ID as well as a list of contacts, so that calls can be made directly from the controls on the steering wheel assembly.

However, the Telephone Module has only been tested for compatibility with three Nokia phones (6230, 6230i, and 8800), and four Siemens' models (S65, SK65, S75, and SL75). This is because the system uses Bluetooth's SIM Access Protocol, which is not found on most handsets.

There are two version of the Telephone Module available, one for €400, and one for €370.
