Sony announces XDR-S1 digital radio

28 June 2004 17:19 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Sony has announced that it will be launching a digital radio that will work on the DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) network.

The standalone player, called the XDR-S1 sports its own 2.3W speaker across the front of the player and features line-in and line-out sockets so you can connect additional units to it like a portable CD or MP3 player if you if like.

The XDR-S1 will also support the UK and European frequencies as well as FM and AM signals meaning you can take it on holiday to the sunny climbs of Europe over the summer.

The digital radio also offers 40 presets allowing you to store your favourite programs across the four different radio bands.

Sony is hoping that this player will crack the rather overcrowded kitchen radio market putting them ahead of market leaders Pure Digital.

The player is expected to cost around £200
