Sony's Connect music download site launches today

Sony's online music store has launched this morning, however where Sony had hoped to be able to offer over 500,000 songs, it appears that that only half the song planned to be available on the launch day will be available to download.
The service, which has gone live in UK, France and Germany hopes to go up against Napster and Apple's iTunes offering downloads in the ATRAC format. Like Apple though, songs will be available to download for 79p in the UK.
Other European stores including Switzerland, Austria, the Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands will be by the end of the year and Italian and Spanish stores early next year.
Sony's Connect service was originally scheduled for a June launch, but has been hampered by licensing agreements and the sheer volume of songs to upload to the service, something which by the look of things is still dogging the site even today.
