Canon launches four new scanners
New models combine low prices with decent specs

Canon has today updated its scanner line with four new models ranging in price from $79 to $179.
The CanoScan8600F, LiDE 600F, CanoScan 440F, and the LiDE 70 colour scanners scan both documents and photos.
The first three all scan photos at up to 4800 x 9600ppi optical resolution; the two CanoScans include a built-in Film Adaptor Unit to make scanning negatives and slides easy.
All four models feature EZ Buttons that make one touch operations out of copying, scanning, creating Adobe PDF files, and image optimization.
PDF file creation has been enhanced on the two CanoScans and the LiDE 600F so that the files can be made in colour or black and white and multiple pages can be combined into one file.
All the new devices use USB2.0 connectivity for high-speed data transfer.
The most expensive of the lot, at $179, is the CanoScan 8600F, that comes with software and technology to remove dust and scratches from scanned images.
The LiDE 600F is a space-saver, as it adapts to a vertical position so that documents can be dropped into it, as well as a tradition horizontal position or open position for scanning of awkwardly-shaped objects.
Like the LiDE 70, the 600F gets its power from the USB connection to the PC, and features seven EZ Buttons and 48-bit colour depth for $149.
The CanoScan 4400F, which is priced at $99, is, according to Canon, the best of both worlds, “the harmonious balance of performance and value pricing”.
Its 4800 x 9600ppi resolution capabilities and built-in film adaptor makes it perfect for work with negatives and slides.
Last up is the budget LiDE 70 for $79, which is marketed to the classroom and dormroom. It achieves a maximum resolution of 2400 x 4800ppi, and features four EZ Buttons for copying, scanning, emailing, and creating a PDF.
