Canon unveils the HV10, its first high-definition camcorder
Company says it's the smallest and lightest on the market

In addition to three new midrange camcorders, Canon has today announced its own high-definition camcorder, the HV10, to rival Sony’s recently announced offering.
The company claims that at 2 inches wide and 4 inches tall, and weighing less than a pound, the HV10 is the smallest and lightest true HDV camcorder.
The camcorder is capable of recording full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 video on to an HDV video tape, while 3.1-megapixel still images can be recorded to a MiniSD card.
Canon has combined its HD optics with Super Range Optical Image Stabilisation to optimise video quality and clarity, which is further enhanced by the DIGIC DV II image processor.
Other features include Smooth Zoom Control, 16:9 aspect ration, nine-point super-fast autofocus, and a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD.
Canon hopes to win a 20% share in the Japanese consumer camcorder market by this autumn.
The HV10 is expected on worldwide release in September and will cost around 150,000 Japanese Yen (£700).
