Panasonic has launched a DVD Video camera with a difference in Japan.

The VDR-D400 is the first of its kind to boast a 20x optical zoom. The standard zoom on most other camcorders is half of that.

According to Panasonic, thanks to anti-blur technology, the camera will capture shake-free images even at the maximum zoom.

It records using MPEG2 compression on to DVD-RAM/-R/-RW, and can take 3.1MP still images as well as video; both can be stored on an SD card as well.

The camera will retail from September for around ¥120,000 (£560).
