Pentax has introduced a new model to the Optio range - the OptioS50. The five megapixel variant of its popular S range offers a 3x optical zoom lens among other features.

Housed in the same casing as the three mega pixel S30 the camera offers a 1.8in LCD monitor on the rear of the unit and has the same mode dial on the top of the unit. The Optio S50 will come with 13 pre-programmed modes for the digital camera novice and will be powered by two AA batteries in keeping with the rest of the range.

The OptioS50 is also PictBridge compatible, thereby allowing direct printing when connected to compatible printers.

Also like other models in the range the unit will come with 11Mb on board memory - rather poor considering this is a five megapixel camera - with the option of expanding the memory quota further with an SD slot.

Priced at £229 the camera will be available from September
