Epson has announced an upgrade to its portable photo viewers, adding processing speed and a larger screen.

The P-2000 and P-4000 are to be replaced by the P-3000 and the P-5000. The new models sport the same amount of storage as the older ones, holding 40GB and 80GB respectively.

Epson say that the new versions are 250 percent faster than the older ones.

Other improvements include a slightly larger body, an increase in screen size from 3.8 inches to 4, and a slightly more intuitive button layout.

The devices have a four-colour filter that are capable of reproducing 16 million colours, providing ultra-clear viewing of images. Videos, photos, and MP3s can all be stored on the device, and transferred directly from CF or SD cards, thanks to two slots at the top.

They’re not for sale yet, but are expected toward the end of the year, for $500 for the P-3000 and $700 for the P-5000.
