Comment: It looks like the P-400 and P-200 have finally got a make over, The P-400 predictably features an xD Picture Card slot to allow direct printing and the addition of a new 1.8" LCD allows the images on the card to be viewed before you print. The P-10 is a smaller printer that prints 10cm x 15cm images. Both are available in October.

The P-440 produces superior photo-lab quality images ideal for both the professional photographer and beginner alike. This 314 dpi dye-sublimation printer takes just 75 seconds to deliver an A4 laminated print of a quality that would please the most demanding of clients. Whether being used for prints for a business presentation or for your holiday snaps, the fast and efficient P-440 is sure to impress. Available from October 2003, RRP £399.99 (inc VAT). For stockist information call freephone 0800 072 0070.

The P-440`s dye-sublimation technology heats the ribbons holding the transparent ink which then diffuses on to the paper. This method avoids the grid patterns often found with ink-jet models and produces true (24 bit) continuous colour tones. Dye sublimation models therefore need less resolution than ink-jet printers to achieve high-quality realistic results.

Photos printed with a dye-sublimation model are resistant to environmental damage such as light and humidity. The pictures are also protected against staining ensuring that the user is able to keep shots in perfect condition for many years after they are snapped.

The P-440 uses Print Image Matching technology connecting only to digital cameras which support this standard to produce best possible results. The P-440 is able to look for information the compatible cameras have provided about each individual shot. For example, the printer can read record shooting settings, such as white balance, for each photo. By assessing these details, the printer can determine the optimum print settings needed to recreate the scene faithfully.

The P-440 boasts an integrated ICC profile which ensures that it uses a palette of colours which correspond to those used by the camera. The reproduction fidelity is so impressive that on-the-spot proofing is possible saving precious time for busy professionals.

The user can save more time by inserting storage cards from a digital camera directly in to the printer without having to first download the images to a computer. The P-440 has slots for both xD-Picture Card as well as, via an adapter, Compact Flash and SmartMedia cards.

The printer features an integrated colour 1.8” LCD which displays the images clearly so the user can check them and make small alterations immediately. For presentations on larger screens, connection to a Windows or Mac computer via the USB interface is possible. The model can also be linked up to a television via the video out connection.

Whether it's a passport photo or a wedding snap, this technology guarantees that the picture will be in perfect condition even years later.

The new PictBridge communications standard ensures compatibility between compliant digital cameras and printers. Direct printing is possible from the P-10 when connecting cameras that support this standard.* Alternatively, a connection to a PC enables you to achieve top quality results as you can view and edit shots on the monitor before printing.

Performance is matched by appearance as the printer boasts a modern and elegant design. Compact and sleek, users will be proud to have the P-10 on display in their office or at home.

* The first ‘DPS' Pictbridge camera will be a new version of the C-350 zoom in October. This will be followed by the C-5000 Zoom.
