Nokia unleashes the N95 multimedia computer

Stylish multifunctional device includes 5MP camera and GPS receiver

NEWS: 26 September 2006 16:50 GMT by Amber Maitland

With the slogan “It’s what computers have become”, Nokia has unveiled the N95, calling it an all-in-one multimedia computer.

Rather than a traditional slider, the N95 features a two-way slide concept that makes it easy to switch between modes, so that you can go from reading maps with the integrated GPS, so watching video. A numeric keypad slides out one end, while media or music keys slide out from the other, changing the device to landscape mode.

The device comes with a dedicated Maps application that includes maps for more than 100 countries and covers more than 15 million points of interest.

A 5-megapixel camera is also included, boasting a Carl Zeiss lens, but no zoom yet. Unusually the mobile has a TV out feature so that you can play your images and video on the TV screen.

Designed for HSDPA, or 3.5G, the N95 also supports WLAN, EDGE, and WCDMA networks.

Other features include a 2.6-inch QVGA 16 million colour display, 3D graphics, built-in stereo speakers, a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD card slot, and mini USB socket.

Unsubsidised, the N95 is expected to retail for €550.
