Buffalo Technology has launched the DriveStation Duo USB2.0/FireWire external hard drive with RAID 1 full data redundancy.

Available in 500GB, 800GB, 1TB, and 1.5TB capacities, the device features both FireWire and USB2.0 connectivity to give users the best option for their PC. It comes with a Windows RAID utility so that RAID modes can be easily changed.

“RAID 1 in a two-disc product essentially means no data will be lost if one of the disks fails, and users can still operate the product during the rebuilding process. The DriveStation Duo not only provides continuous backup of the other disk but is a quick and easy way to store, access and transfer your [multimedia] and other important files”, said Gerardine Lynch, product marketing manager at Buffalo Technology.

The device also includes security software, Secure Lock Ware, that protects the drive with 256 bit AES encryption, and also comes with Memeo backup software so that regular system backups can be scheduled and password protected.

The DriveStation Duo offers three automatic features to make backing up easier: Auto Setup ensures quick installation; Auto Power-On keeps the drive in sync with the PC’s powers; Auto Backup lets users schedule backup.

The drives start at £135.99 and go up to £509 excluding VAT.
