Sega has announced a deal to create the videogame to go along with the movies based on Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy.

The first film is based on The Golden Compass and is being made by New Line Cinema and Scholastic Media. Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig are to take central roles in the fantasy.

"The Golden Compass is a perfect match for the video game medium with compelling characters engaged in a heroic conflict between good and evil in an incredible and rich fantasy world”, said Simon Jeffery, president of Sega America.

A senior executive at New Line has called The Golden Compass, which has a $150 million budget, “New Line’s biggest film since The Lord of the Rings” – it could potentially be as popular, as the novels have had phenomenal success with both children and adults.

If The Golden Compass proves its worth at the box office, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass are also going to get big-screen treatment.
