Sony exec finally apologises over battery faults

It's about time

NEWS: 24 October 2006 14:10 GMT by Amber Maitland

Sony executives in Japan have finally offered an apology for the appalling fiasco involving their batteries, which in a few odd cases, have caught fire, prompting a worldwide recall of over 9 million units.

The executives said that the problem was now resolved, and that none of the leaders would resign over the recall, but would continue in order to see it through.

The battery overheating risk stemmed from a fault in production, where metal particles got inside the battery and caused a short circuit.

Sony Corporate Executive Officer Yutaka Nakagawa said, “We would like to apologise for the worries”.

A bit late, and a bit grudging, Mr Nakagawa.
