Canon has launched a number of new cameras today ahead of Photokina at the end of the month. At the top of the launch pile for the consumer range is the Digital Ixus i5.

The new model will come in four colours - Platinum Silver, Midnight Blue, Bordeaux Red and Storm Grey. Boasted as Canon's smallest ever 5.0 Megapixel camera the all-metal bodied model will weigh just 100g

Breaking from tradition the unit will not feature an optical zoom but will come with a 6.5x digital zoom. The camera will also be able to shoot 3 minutes of video clips with full sound.

In an attempt to push Canon's image GATEWAY online picture storage service, the i5 will come with 100Mb of album space on the web for storing images.

The Digital IXUS i5 will be available from November 2004 and cost £319. In America the model will be lauched as the SD20
