Toshiba has proudly unveiled a tiny 100GB hard-disk drive that can be used in small portable devices – read, iPods.
The drive is of the 1.8-inch variety, and increases the storage by 20GB over the previous highest-capacity 1.8-inch drive.
Toshiba will display and demo the hardware at CES in January, when it will also start production.
The drives aren't for sale to end users, but to manufacturers.
Toshiba managed to squeeze all the data storage on to the tiny device by using perpendicular recording and four read and write heads. It consumes just 0.3W of power.
