SanDisk announces wrath of Memory Card products

SanDisk has announced a number of memory card specific products at Photokina, in Cologne today. For the serious professional photographer, the company announced an 8Gb Compact Flash card costing $1000, a 4Gb Memory Stick Pro and 2Gb SD Card.

For the consumer SanDisk launched a range of what is likes to call “digital negative cards”. The cards which are low on memory (32Mb and 64Mb) will cost at little as $10. Called Shoot & Store SanDisk hope that people will simply buy more rather than transferring the images to a hard drive.

However if people do want to transfer their images from the flash cards, SanDisk isn't planning on missing an opportunity and has also announced today three new memory card readers. the SanDisk ImageMate 12-in-1, ImageMate 5-in-1 and ImageMate CompactFlash (CF) readers.

The most interesting product however that SanDisk launched today was the SanDisk® Photo Album, a compact, and supposedly easy-to-use device that lets consumers display digital still pictures or video clips on their TV sets and even attach soundtracks to slide shows. Using any one of eight flash memory card formats as well as portable USB flash drives, the unit also enables consumers to play MP3 music files on their home audio systems. The device also comes with a remote control and will cost roughly $50.

SanDisk has yet to announce UK pricing.
