Alienware has upgraded its top-of-the-line Area-51 7500 desktop computer with Intel quad-core processors.

The new Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 is now available for the top-spec desktop. It's made up of four separate processing cores in one package, and provides 8MB of L2 cache, which improves the multitasking potential of the computer.

It can therefore render a video, run a demanding videogame, and run productivity software all at the same time with no decrease in speed for any of the applications.

It enables enhanced physics, AI, rendering, and overall gameplay for gamers, and speeds up the workflow for multimedia enthusiasts who use applications dependent on threaded computing.

A new Digital Thermal Sensor ensure that the processor runs cool but that the system fans spin only as fast as needed to minimise noise.
