Latest Samsung Ultra Edition, the Z720, supports HSDPA

28 December 2006 15:33 GMT / By Amber Maitland

Although the period between Christmas and New Year isn't generally considered prime time for product announcements, Samsung is going against conventional wisdom and has announced the launch of its Ultra Edition 13.8 slider mobile in Europe.

The SGH-Z720 is the first HSDPA-capable Ultra Edition mobile, and promises speeds of up to 1.8Mbps.

Weighing only 8 grams, and measuring just 13.8mm, the slider features a 3MP camera and a 2.1-inch QVGA screen on which to view your shots.

It supports WAP 2.0 and HTML browsing, and even boasts a second camera at the front for video telephony.

Other features include a document viewer and a voice memo recorder, and although no mention of an MP3 player is made, it's safe to assume it has one, since it supports microSD external memory and is equipped with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

It also supports Samsung's uGo and uTrack interfaces. The uGo interface responds to its environment to display the city landmark of where you are, adjusts the picture to represent day or night, and automatically reflects the time. Utrack helps to keep track of a stolen or lost phone.

The Z720 is also the first mobile from Samsung to have Google search and Gmail preinstalled, so that users can access search and email quickly.
