Magellan launches Crossover GPS road and off-road satnav

5 January 2007 14:17 GMT / By Amber Maitland

Magellan is debuting its new CrossoverGPS, designed for both driving and boating, at the London Boat Show.

The CrossoverGPS comes with street maps and topo maps, and can also function as a boating guide with latitude and longitude coordinates pinpointed.

The device features a 3.5-inch colour touchscreen, weighs 235 grams, and is IPX-4 waterproof with enough battery life to last for up to 8 hours.

Multiple outdoor navigation screens ensure that you can keep track of your location off-road, with a compass, altimeter, distance to destination, cross-track error, and estimated time of arrival.

An SD card slots lets you switch from car navigation to outdoor activities, while Marine mode changes the display to nautical miles for distace, and knots for speed.

It comes with SmartDetour to guide drivers around motorway traffic, and a searchable directory of 2 million points of interest.

Although not available for sale yet, it's expected to retail for under £300.
