CES 2007: Xacti HD2 takes over from the HD1 in Sanyo's camcorder range Pistol grip camcorder takes up to 7MP stills

The latest camcorder to emerge from the fog of CES is the Sanyo Xacti HD2, which offers a new 7.38MP sensor and great low-light sensitivity.

The HD2 is the smallest and lightest near HD camcorder on the market, and follows the HD1 and HD1a models.

It records both 720p video and 7MP stills, and has numerous improvements over the previous models.

Its dock now has an HDMI interface for playback on an HD TV, so that you can watch and edit on the big screen.

It responds well in low light, promising to record in light as low as 12.5 lux in auto, a 75% increase to previous models, and can make it all the way down to 6 lux in lamp mode.

Digital image stabilisation works all the way across the 10x optical zoom, and it powers up in as little as 1.7seconds, simply by flipping open the 2.2-inch LCD, which can rotate up to 285 decrees.

The Sanyo Xacti HD2 will be on sale in March in the US for around $700.
