Google launches desktop search tool for PC

Google has today launched a new software utility that will allow PC users to search their hard drives for assorted files.

The free software will provide full text search over your email, computer files, chats, and the web pages you've viewed. The idea is to allow users to search their hard drives as easily as they would the internet.

The application currently works with Outlook, Outlook Express, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as standard text documents. The utility can also search your website Internet Explorer history file and any saved in AOL Instant Messenger message chats.

The software is presented in a web browser format similar to the Google website, However the software, currently still in beta isn't available to Macintosh users.
