We have clamshell mobile phones so why not clamshell digital cameras?

Well one designer has created a concept that offers just that - a clamshell design to protect the camera's LCD display.

Called the FLAPcam, when folded up, the lens, display and buttons are protected against dirt and scratches but then opened out you can view images.

Think the Agfa range of digital cameras from the late-90s and then Nikon's S range, but folding inwards rather than rotating and you get the idea.

By the looks of things its just concept design without any plans for becoming a reality.

According to designer Matthais Lange, "The innovative way of use of the FLAPcam is supported by an unusual visual language that encourages the user to interact with the camera in a playful way".
