Skype has released the latest version of its Skype for Mac software.

Skype for Mac 2.5, the beta version, has been available since mid-November, but the kinks weren't ironed out until now.

The company has added a birthday reminder feature to your contacts, so that you can keep track of their special day.

The software also lets you send text messages to any mobile in the world, and lets Mac users hold a conference call with up to nine other people.

As usual, calls to Skype contacts are free, while calls to landlines incur a small fee. Video calls to other Skype users are also free.

Requirements for Mac users is a G4 800Mhz processor or faster, or OS X v10.3.9 or later; 40MB free hard disk space; a microphone; a webcam; and broadband.
