This weekend saw the start of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Barbican in London.
Over the past two and a half decades, this Central London arts centre has hosted some of the most acclaimed and also controversial events - the centre itself was described as a eyesore when it first opened.
Over the next two weeks there are a number of special events to mark the anniversary, including a birthday concert with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Colin Davis accompanied by Mitsuko Uchida, as well as screenings of the top ten films, as chosen by Barbican audiences.
This site lists all the birthday events as well as what's on during the rest of the year. Booking online is a doddle too.
A cultural feast not to be missed.
