Following rumours that The Beatles were about to become available online for digital download, record publisher EMI has stepped in to quash any ideas.
The company moved fast against UK online music vendor, Wippit, which had posted a release claiming it would be the first retailer to sell tracks from the Fab Four on its website.
A source at Wippit today Macworld UK magazine: "There will be an official announcement tomorrow that will confirm our position and make some Beatles fans very happy indeed".
According to MacWorld, Wippit CEO Paul Myers historically has said: "I will give (The Beatles company) Apple Corps. half of my business if they allowed Wippit to sell The Beatles exclusively".
Last month rumours suggested that Apple and its iTunes store would be getting the digital download collection following the announcement that Apple Inc and Apple Corp had finally settled a on their copyright dispute.
