The Blu-ray HD-DVD battle seems to be back and forth at the moment. One minute Toshiba announces gains with HD DVD, the next its Sony's turn. Today's news on the subject is that Thomson has announced that it's taking the middle ground and supporting both formats with players next year.

Thomson is a founding member of the Blu-ray, but has decided to make HD DVD players following the endorsements from major Hollywood studios, including Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Studios.

The boost for HD DVD is that Thomson has said that it will make consumer players through its Thomson and RCA brands for the HD DVD format.
