WEBSITE OF THE DAY - wrayvillage.co.uk/scarecrows
Fancy something a little different for the weekend?

Good old England. Where else in the world would you have an entire week devoted to the humble scarecrow? That's right, a whole 7 days dedicated to that famous friend of Dorothy (for legal reasons don't read anything into that last bit).
No, we haven't gone mad. Every now and then we like to bring you something a little quirky, a little unusual, a little bonkers.
The village of Wray in Lancashire hosts its annual Scarecrow Festival and it's well worth a visit if you're anywhere in the neighbourhood. It forms part of the Wray Fair which is a traditional English village event, full of traditional English activities. You may scoff, but it pulls in quite a crowd.
And there's nothing traditional about the website - it's slick, informative and obviously well maintained. Not like the hundreds of traditional English village websites that clutter up the darkest corners of the web.
And if you're quick you could even get up there to enter your own scarecrow into the festivities. Need inspiration? Google "Boris Johnson" and you'll get the idea.
