Samsung electronics has announced the world's largest Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) screen for high definition televisions.
The screen technology, which is usually found on digital cameras, cell phones and PDAs generates its own light meaning the need for back lighting is made redundant. This also means that devices can be slimmer and more power efficient.
OLEDs have been touted as a possible replacement for LCD and Plasma displays. However development of the technology at this size has not reached mass production levels at the moment.
The OLED screen has a resolution of 6.2million pixels, brightness of 400 candela and a contrast ratio of 5000:1, which according to Samsung makes it ideal for viewing high definition video.
