Sony Ericsson launch T650 and T250 phones

High end and entry level handset due later this year

NEWS: 9 May 2007 2:24 GMT by Stuart Miles

Sony Ericsson has announced two new phones in its T range; the Sony Ericsson T650 and T250.

According to Sony Ericsson, the T650 is all about detail while the T250 will be for those on a tight budget.

The T650 sports a funky looking illumination effect on the keypad and the sides of the phone that interact with animations on the screen. As these animations move across the display they set off waves of light around the keypad, which stand-out against the reflective stainless steel finish.

The 12.5 millimetres thin 3G phone conceals a high performance feature set including a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, a 1.9-inch, scratch-proof screen that has a viewing angle of up to 170 degrees as well as the usual software set now familiar to the company's range of handsets including the its blogger uploading tool.

The T650 will be offered in a choice of two colours – Growing Green and Midnight Blue – and will be a Dual mode UMTS 2100 - GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 phone.

It will be available in selected markets from Q3 2007.

Sony has also announced the launch of the Sony Ericsson T250 this week in London.

The new entry-level phone has a metal finish so according to Sony Ericsson "You can have quality design and finish in a phone without the high-end price tag”, says Steve Walker, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson.

Fitting in under the T650 model, the T250 surprisingly only sports a VGA camera alongside a speakerphone, predictive text input for fast text and picture messaging, and an in-phone calendar that comes in handy for noting key dates or appointments.

Based on consumer feedback, an built-in FM Radio is included on the T250 for music and news around the clock. The T250 kit includes a stereo handsfree headset.

With a colour choice of Black or Silver, it’s difficult to determine which is the more elegant. Whichever you choose, though, be sure that the T250 will get you noticed.

The Sony Ericsson T250 will be available in two versions (GSM/GPRS 900/1800 and GSM/GPRS 850/1900) and will ship in selected markets from Q3 2007.

The T250 with measure 100 x 45 x 13mm, weigh 82 grams and come with a 1.7-inch 65k colour screen. It offers up to 7 hours talk time and 300 hours standby time.
