Ask.com gets a 3D re-vamp More multimedia search results

Ask.com, the fourth most popular search engine in the US, is undergoing a major revamp to try and catch Google up.

On a very similar theme to Google's recent announcement about moving towards the "Google Universal Search" where multimedia results will be returned along with web pages, Ask.com will give photos and videos an equal ranking with text-based pages.

The new service has been called Ask3D and will divide search results into three areas using a content matching service called Morph that intelligently decides what people are looking for based on the search terms entered.

One nifty promised trick is the ability to scroll over images to see them enlarged, rather than having to click links while videos begin to play within the search results page.

The video search will be powered by Blinkx, the video search service and music-related links will be handled by iLike.com.
