Think that the megapixel rush is getting out of control? Well get prepared for a whole lot more.

Sharp has launched a 1/4-inch-optical-sized CMOS camera module, the "LZ0P39DS" which has an output resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels and features automatic focus.

For those not savvy with photography speak that means 200 megapixel cameras could be just around the corner.

The module, which will be small enough to fit into a regular compact camera is also compliant with UXGA video at 15 fps.

The sample is priced at 5000 yen. Volume production will be started in July and the company plans to produce 300,000 modules per month.
